October 2024 · The diagnosis
Cancer took me out of the chair.
I was diagnosed with cancer. Treatment took me out of the chair. The team I'd built needed work, and I couldn't be the bottleneck anymore — so I started teaching AI to do the parts of the job I used to do myself.
Three months · Building a team out of AI
Not a hobby — a survival plan.
Blinders on, waiting for surgery, I had one job: teach AI to do the work my team did. The copy, the content, the strategy, the traffic. Not a hobby — a survival plan.
Early 2025 · The wreckage, and what survived it
I replaced the grind, not my people.
The surgery worked. Then a deal collapsed and a role disappeared — and the content production line I'd built, the contributors and the grind of it, fell away. What survived was the thing I'd built in those three months. I didn't replace my core people — my developer, my right hand, my affiliate manager are still with me. I replaced the grind that was burning us out. And in a lot of ways, it did the work better.
